Noteworthy & Alarming News That Surfaced In 2012!
International Spotlight via OXFAM focused on African Agriculture and the new phenomena referred to as "LAND GRABBING!
All considering, one can say that there is indeed valid grounds for concern in this regard, however, there is also sufficient proof of valid and legitimate development in certain regions of the African Continent, clearly for the benefit of the local people within these regions. Just recently a publication surfaced concerning a major agricultural development on the way in Northern Sudan. This particular development entails a land area 100,000-hectares in extent, earmarked for a major irrigation development mainly for the production of Lucern, a development which upon completion, would cost approximately US$500-Million! The first phase, 12,800-hectares in extent, is already underway. This particular development will make provision for a city that will have residential facilities, shopping facilities, medical facilities, educational facilities etc, and in addition, factories for the production of the Piping and Irrigation equipment requirements for the project are already implemented. Indeed a massive development, the largest ever in the world! Surely, this will have enormous advantages for job creation and provision in the over-all socio-economic upliftment of the peoples in this region - I fail to see a case for "Land-grabbing" in this instance.
